The Mapper: pins, journeys and territories that play back in story order.

Works with any map you already have

Upload a map made in Inkarnate, Wonderdraft or Azgaar, a scan of a hand-drawn sketch, a real city street plan or a floor plan. Storymapper adds the story on top and leaves your artwork untouched.

Pins, journeys, territories and icons

Place a pin for each scene and link it to the scene on your timeline. Connect pins with arrows that bend around mountains and coastlines, shade the land each faction holds, and drop icons from a library that covers places, heraldry, animals, magic and sci-fi.

Playback in story order

A strip above the map shows your acts, chapters and dates. Scrub along it or press play, and pins, arrows and borders appear at the moment they happen. Borders can have a start and an end, so a territory can grow, shrink and vanish.

Catch travel and geography mistakes

Seeing every journey on the map shows when a character crosses a continent between two chapters, or arrives somewhere before they set off.

Follow one character

Choose a character and the map shows only their scenes, joined up in story order. It is the quickest way to see one journey through a crowded story.

Save a picture or share a link

Stop playback at any moment and save the map as a picture, with everything drawn on it and the chapter in the corner. Or send a read-only link, and let someone else press play.

How it works

  1. Open a project and upload your map image.
  2. Choose the Scene tool and click the map to place a pin. Link it to a timeline scene or give it a chapter and date.
  3. Add arrows between pins, shade areas and place icons.
  4. Press play, or drag along the strip, to watch the story unfold.
